My violet leaf oil is made from Viola sororia. This grows all over my property and I pick the most vibrant leaves to make this oil fresh each year. Large amounts of leaves are dried & blended into avocado oil, then steeped for several weeks. The finished oil has a nice green color & smells strongly of the leaves. Strained on 1/12/26.

Ingredients: dried violet leaves, avocado oil

Violet leaf is cooling, moistening (dry skin anyone?), with lymphatic properties & an affinity to the 'heart' (look at the shape of the leaves.... see a heart? :)). Violet is a nourisher; it may sound silly, but this plant embodies 'green' with its scent & color, and green is the color of the heart chakra. Violet leaf is high in vitamin A, which is fat soluble and able to be absorbed by the skin. Violet leaf is also rich in vitamin C, but unfortunately that is NOT fat soluble and cannot be absorbed by the skin - so better to eat the leaves for that!

Other comments on violet leaf:

Violet leaves are a wild edible, if you're in a pinch for healthy greens:) I'll admit they don't taste the best to my palate, but I find that eating a leaf now & again suffices for adding wild food to your diet. You don't have to eat a giant bowl to get the benefits of wild plants, because wild food has not been genetically altered, and contains way more nutrients than plants bred for flavor or pest resistance. They literally breed the nutrition right out of the plant!

There is a particular time when I like to gather these leaves: after the spring rains & before it gets too hot. This is when the leaves are very large (see 2nd pic!), and they are a vibrant dark green color. Another factor is picking them in wooded areas. I leave sections of my property 'wild', and this is where I gather from. Sun causes the leaves to turn paler green & sometimes a 'yellow green'. They will also have a shiny 'gloss' to them when at their peak, similar to a perfectly ripe strawberry. (The only downside to violet picking is the relentless attack of thousands of mosquitoes... is there no mercy dear god???!! :))
