St John's Wort oil (hypericum perforatum) is made with a large amount of fresh flowers & infused in avocado oil, using a quick infusion. I do remove all moisture in the final product (low heat evaporates the water content), otherwise bacteria could easily form & I prefer to avoid preservatives in any of my products. The oil looks red in the bottle but is a pinkish color when applied. Avocado is light in color, unlike olive oil. I make this oil fresh each year. Use within 1 year of purchase. Made on 6/25/25.
Ingredients: fresh st. john's wort flowers, avocado oil
St John's Wort oil is often used for nerve/muscle pain, wound healing, mild burns & some people use it for HSV related conditions (cold sores). It's astringent, calming, and vulnerary. I find it to be very uplifting in color and scent (similar to when I smell cottonwood - immediate happiness to varying degrees:)).
I collect this flower on the shores of Seneca Lake, where it grows in abundance (I also have some started on my property, we'll see what happens:)). It's usually scalding hot when this flower is in bloom, and I usually take a ceremonial dip in the lake at my favorite spot near the flowers. This is another plant that reminds me of sunshine when I use it, most likely because the bright red color reminds me of those scalding hot temps when I pick it, but I like to think it's also a 'sunshine in the bottle' plant, like dandelion.
